SurgeryMy name is Lyndon Jones, as a Podiatric Surgeon I occupy a unique role in modern healthcare. With over twenty years experience in foot surgery, I am one of the small group of podiatric surgeons in the country, whose original training was as a chiropodist and not a doctor. This initial training has given me an extra insight into my patients' foot problems.
I have extensive experience of managing foot deformity and pain, and one of my specialist areas is Hallux Valgus, or bunion deformity. The aim of the foot surgery is to cure the presenting problems and improve foot function. However, I believe that it is extremely important to carefully guide my patients through the decisions prior to surgery. Surgery is always a decision left to the patient as my experience is that informed patients do better and recover quicker. I recommend early mobilisation after surgery, and patients will wear the post-operative shoe immediately after the operation. Twelve days post operative stitches will be trimmed/removed and at that point we aim to get patients back into a soft soled lace up type of shoe. Getting movement and blood flow through the foot after the operation is one of the ways to reduce complications and speed up recovery. If you can run a marathon now I expect you to run one again after surgery!
Surgery is undertaken at New Hall Hospital usually as a day case procedure under local anaesthetic, on a Friday morning with a reporting time of 7.30am. |
