Podiatry

Podiatry / Chiropody

Podiatry – from Greek pous, pod- 'foot' + iatros 'physician’

Podiatry is the newer term now being used when talking about foot care and is rapidly replacing the well-known term - chiropody.

Podiatrists:

  • Assess foot disorders
  • Diagnose foot disorders
  • Treat foot disorders
  • Look at the impact of those foot disorders on the mechanical balance of the body

Podiatrists use traditional skills of chiropody care by removing painful corns and callouses when necessary. The podiatrist then aim to fully understand the cause of the problem, so that if possible they can cure it completely.

Once a diagnosis has been reached we will work with you to find the best solution for either curing the problem or minimising its impact upon your daily living.

Problems like corns, callouses, nail and skin changes are often a sign of underlying structural or medical disorders. Although the first thing to do is to treat them it is equally important to understand why they have arisen. Once the cause has been identified then we can work together to make your daily living as easy as possible.
