Anaesthetic

There are two methods of using anaesthetic, either with or without sedation, here is a guide for eating and drinking prior to surgery.

1. With sedation

For patients choosing the option of surgery under local anaesthetic WITH SEDATION the following applies:

• Food is permitted to be eaten up to 6 hours prior to surgery
• Fluids are only permitted up to 2 hours prior to surgery
• No alcohol is permitted for 24 hours prior to surgery

2. Local Anaesthetic only

For patients choosing the option of surgery under a local anaesthetic the following applies:

• Food is permitted to be eaten up to 2 hours prior to surgery
• No alcohol is permitted for 24 hours prior to surgery
